I will miss you so much Larry. I’ll miss your voice and your funny voicemails and I hold the memories when we worked together at the Institutes close to my heart. Rest in peace. ❤️

I met Larry in 1986 when he picked me up at the airport to take me back to Staten Island where my dear friend Olga and he were living at the time.  He was so funny during the drive as we got to know each other.   I stay with them for 2 weeks while I found a job and a place to live in Manhattan.  We would all get together over the years in Staten Island or up at the house in Southbury, CT.   It was great to be at their wedding and meet Nick & Alexandra when they were born. 

 Larry was one of the best human beings around and cared so much for others including his  family, friends, and  patients.  My deepest condolences  to his family & friends and all who loved him.

only heard about this now. i am sorry for your loss. Larry was the kind of neighbor anyone would want to have. he was one of a kind and a genuinely good person. Rest in Peace.

My daughter and I are so saddened to hear about Larry’s sudden passing. We are neighbors on Oakwood Avenue and considered Larry as the unofficial mayor of the block. He always said hello with a smile and was great to chat with. I wish we had taken the time to talk to him more often. As many others have said, his kind heart was evident. We’re grateful to Larry for helping to take care of the homeless cats nearby.  He will be truly missed. We wish his family peace and comfort during this very difficult time.  🙏🏻

Goodbye Mr. Larry,

When Adriana, Bailey, and I first walked down Oakwood looking for a place to call home, it was Larry who stepped out to greet us. That simple, welcoming gesture told us everything we needed to know about the block. From that day on, he became not just our neighbor—but our friend. Though his name was Larry, to us—and especially to our pup Bailey—he was always “Mr. Larry.”

Larry was the kindest man on the block. The type of neighbor who didn’t just wave in passing—he genuinely connected. Whether we were both out doing yard work, or just catching up across the fence, I always looked forward to our conversations. There was a warmth to him, a calmness, and a quiet wisdom that made you feel better after just a few minutes in his presence.

Our backyards touched, but more importantly, our lives did too. Larry reminded me of a real-life Mr. Feeny—someone you’re lucky to live next to. Someone who made the block feel like a community. I honestly don’t think there’s a house on Oakwood that doesn’t know or care about Larry. And that’s no small thing—that’s the kind of man he was.

He was a great neighbor. A true friend. A proud father. A gentle soul who will be deeply missed by all of us on Oakwood. We feel incredibly lucky to have shared time, space, and conversation with him.

To his family—please know that our home is open to you, always. If you ever need anything don’t hesitate to knock.

To Larry's family,  Larry is a fixture on  The block, he was a kind man, and would go out is way just to say hello and help.   He will be truly miss .    Our deepest sympathy to the family.    Rest in peace.

Larry was a good man and an amazing neighbor for many years.  We will always remember how he took care of our community as if we were his family. He was always the kindest person, helping anyone and everyone he could. We will never forget the greatest man on our block, may he rest in peace forever.

Dear Nick, Alexandra and Marjorie,
Our hearts are broken. I've known Larry for almost my entire life. Kathy has known Larry for almost 50 years. We have loved Larry for all of this time. Larry brought laughter and joy every single day at work, every phone call and whenever we were able to be together, even if it turned out to be an hour visit at Key Food! We shared his joy at your parents' wedding and his joy when you both were born. Larry was a talented artist, a loving husband and father, a loving brother, a true friend, a wonderful real person. We will miss hearing Larry's voice and his jokes, we will miss his kind, loving, caring heart. Larry brought joy to the world, now he will bring it to Heaven! We will always love Larry. My heart is sad and my prayers are with Larry’s precious family in their time of grief. Larry and I share the same last name, and people used to think we were family. We worked together at SIUH. Larry  ALWAYS brought his lightness to every conversation. He was refreshing and his presence will be missed. I will remember him with a smile. 🙏🏼😊

To Haggerty family.  Larry was the greatest neighbor, a true friend and a wonderful courageous man.  He always watched over me and we shared many a funny moments.  He always went out of his way to help others and did it with a loving smile.  I will miss you terribly.  You will always reside in my heart and never be forgotten.

I am so sorry for your loss. When I think of your Dad I have such fond memories of laughing to the point of peeing on myself. Yes I said it because that was the truth. He made us laugh every day when I was working with him at SIUH. I wish I could find the right words for All of you in Larry's family, that would bring you peace.  His caring and kind ways, his incredible sense of humor, his love for his family and his true beliefs in love and friendship are just a small portion of what made him such an amazing person.  He was my first love and I had the pleasure of him being one of my dearest friends for 63 years. I'm sure he is on Angel's Wings!!! Thanks for all the memories, Larry, I will always love and miss you!!!

         Lawrence Haggerty was a great Dad. He was so generous with his time, was a great listener, always made people laugh and loved you two so much.  I remember birthday parties he threw for you and a boa constrictor was brought in for all the kids to see. There was always an imaginative touch he thought of. I am so sorry for your loss!! He was so vibrant and kept his zest for life no matter what the circumstances were. Despite all the challenges life threw at him,  Larry stayed strong and always looked at the bright side. He reached out to the neighborhood and created beauty with his gardening.  Lolly and Nick, I wish you well and I hope you carry his sense of humor with you into every part of life and his creativity. Your Dad sure was good about seeing the glass as half full , he had a heart for helping people and lifting them up even when he felt down.  If you ever need a visit to North Carolina , give me a call and come on down.  We can eat a dinner and raise a glass in memory of Larry.
