Loretta was born on July 14, 1927 in South Brooklyn and lived there for the first 40 years of her life. Her sister Virginia was her best friend throughout her life. She met the love of her life Anthony Amato and they were happily married for 55 years. He predeceased her in 2004 and there is no doubt he waited 20 years for her to join him in heaven as Loretta was his world. She was a wonderful homemaker and helped her husband many years run a ‘mom and pop’ grocery store in Park Slope. They moved to Staten Island in 1967 to raise their two daughters Barbara Nastro and Margaret Hayes. After retiring in 1986, they traveled the world and in addition to the US, Canada and Europe they went to some exotic places like Africa and China. They loved going to new restaurants and playing cards with their treasured friends. Loretta was very artistic, had a sharp wit, loved old movies, lobsters, an occasional fancy drink, mastered Double Dutch and enjoyed trying her luck at the slots in Atlantic City.
Loretta became well known on social media through her daughter Barbara Gayle with her daily quotes which were better known as ‘Momma Quotes’. It started during the Pandemic and before long there were almost 500 published ‘Momma Quotes’ and many daily fans.
Her dear son in law Dan Nastro and her only grandson Daniel which she adored completed her circle of immediate cherished loved ones. This was until the last 4 years of her life when she met an angel caregiver by the name of Pauline Telesford who was more like a daughter who she loved very much.
Loretta was a kind and loving person to the end and will be dearly missed by so many.
