

Born Maria Gourmou in Korinthos, Greece, she immigrated to the United States moving to Manhattan's Lower East Side. In 1989, she settled in Grant City.
She was a member and an active volunteer of Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Bulls Head, where she baked Kourambiedes and Koulourakia, Greek cookies for church members.
She also belonged to St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Manhattan, where she was a member of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos.
"She was a hard-working woman who selflessly provided for her family." "She touched the lives of everyone she met and will be remembered for her kind gentle heart, said her son," George.
Mrs. Karidis was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed taking care of her family and home.
In addition to her son, George, she is survived by her sons, Vlasios and John; her daughter, Barbara Thomas; 10 grandchildren and six great-granddaughters.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with the liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, Manhattan. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
