Marie "Penny" Barbieri (nee Cutrone), passed away peacefully in Richmond University Medical Center, on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017, at age 93. Penny was born in Brooklyn, N.Y, the oldest of seven children. She attended school at Girls Commercial High School, and later went to work for the New York Telephone Co. Penny met her beloved husband, Edward Barbieri Sr., when they were both in their teens. They later married and started their journey together to begin a family. The family later relocated to Staten Island, and for the past 26 years Penny has enjoyed her life as a "snowbird," wintering in Fort Meyers Beach, Fla. Penny was an unforgettable force, and charmed all that she came in contact with over her 93 years of life. She loved music of all types, but specifically Frank Sinatra, and will always be remembered for organizing the high kick line to his "New York, New York," at family parties and weddings. Her fiery personality, which was matched by her fiery red hair, will surely be missed by all who knew her. She enjoyed music, and was an old movie buff. She loved traveling with her family, cooking and recipe collecting, and in her younger years was an accomplished seamstress, often fashioning the latest styles for her daughters' wardrobes and then later for her granddaughters. We will all always cherish the memories we have of our shared times together. Penny's legacy will be lovingly carried on by her children: Dr. Edward Barbieri Jr. and his wife, Diane, Carol Barbieri and Lisa Barbieri; by her grandchildren, Kimberly and her husband, Marshall McClean, Blair and her husband, Dr. Brian Holloway, Dr. Edward Barbieri III, and Zachary Barbieri; her great-grandchildren, Marshall "Mac" McClean and Cameron "CC" McClean will always remember their GiGi with love and affection. There will be a viewing at Casey Funeral Home, Slosson Ave, Staten Island, on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa's Parish on Monday, April 3, at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at St. John's Cemetery, Queens N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Juvenile Diabetes Assn. Her memory will live on in all who knew her.
