Marie A. Groves Bernal, 88, passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side.
Born Marie Monohan on Staten Island, Marie was a New Brighton resident and waitress at Pete's restaurant on Richmond Terrace. She relocated to Rosemead, Calif., in 1974, where she worked in a school cafeteria for many years. She was also an activity leader for the Episcopal Home in Alhambra, Calif. She found great joy working with the elderly. She retired at age 70. She recently returned to New Jersey to be with her family.
Marie is survived by her children, Timothy, Patrick, Delores, Sean, and Ann Marie; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael; her first husband, Joseph Groves, and second husband, Leo Bernal.
Funeral arrangements are with Harmon Funeral Home. Visiting is Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass is at St. Peter's Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25.
