

Marlene MacDermot, mother to Vincent, Elizabeth, Jolanthe, Sarah and Molly, passed away on June 16th after a long, beautiful and creative life. She was born in Zaandom, Holland to Titia and Cornelius Bruynzeel. She met her husband in Capetown University and married Galt MacDermot, composer, in 1956. She spent her life raising her five children and supporting her husband, a music legend. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in Staten Island, surrounded by family and close friends.
Known for her vibrance, vivacity and joy of life and love of family and music, Marlene will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Marlene’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing. She is survived by her children, their spouses, Timothy, MaryAnne and Gene; her seven beloved grandchildren, Connor, Deirdre, Bridget, Galt, Samson, Jerome, Summer and seven great grandchildren.

A private service will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church 347 Castleton Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10310, June 19th at 1:00 PM and the family will receive friends there. Flowers and memorial gifts are not necessary.
