Always kept her mind active, known for helping others
Mary Lindeman (nee Azzaretto) of Dongan Hills passed away on Oct. 26, 2016, at 91 years of age.
Mary was born in Manhattan, moved to Staten Island at the age of two, and lived in the house her father built in Dongan Hills. Mary attended P.S. 11 and McKee High School. She married John Lindeman in 1944.
In 1974, she went back to work as an executive secretary for the Dept. of Welfare. After she retired she kept busy with computers, learning Italian, online Scrabble and crossword puzzles, games with family, books, music, traveling, and flying in a World War One biplane.
Her secret to longevity was to keep her mind active. Mary helped with the March of Dimes, and was an active member of the AARP, the Golden Age Society, Rosary Society, and the Blue Army at St. Ann's Parish for many years. She was always ready to give help to anyone that she knew or didn't without asking for anything in return. Mary loved to have family and friends around her. She will be missed.
Mary was a loving and devoted wife to John Lindeman who passed in 2004; mother to Charles Lindemann, Cecelia (Lindeman) Somogyi, and David Lindeman; grandmother to Jessie (Lindemann) Haglund, Sharon (Somogyi) Silverman, Jeff Somogyi, Christopher Lindemann, Laurel (Lindemann) Perrault, Kelly (Lindeman) Bonanno, and Joshua Lindeman; great- grandmother to Carl Lindemann, and sister to Angelina Daniels and the late Michael Azzaretto.
Funeral is at Virginia Funeral Chapel on Saturday and Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass is at St. Ann's on Monday at 9:45 a.m. Interment is in Moravian Cemetery.
