

Born Mary Castellano in Brooklyn, she graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic Academy, a boarding school in Long Island.
She moved to Grymes Hill in 1974, and settled in Sunnyside in 1977.
Mrs. Matranga was a homemaker until entering the workforce after the death of her husband, Richard, in 1974.
She worked as a secretary for Dr. Perez at the former Bayley Seton Hospital in Clifton, then later was a bookkeeper at Dial Poultry in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Matranga was a member of the South Shore Grandmothers Club and the Deborah Foundation.
She enjoyed making ceramics, shopping, playing mahjong and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Matranga was warm, loving and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She especially enjoyed preparing the traditional Italian Christmas Eve fish dinner, baking her "special" cookies, and taking out her good china.
She is survived by her son, Bart; her daughters, Rosetta DeMatti and Maria Maley, and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home, with a mass at 10:45 a.m. in St. Teresa's R.C. Church, both in Castleton Corners. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Queens.
