

Mary was born in March of 1933, in Stapleton, S.I., the daughter of the late Adele and John Bottone. She graduated from New Dorp High School. Mary met the love of her life, John Schneider, at the Stapleton Community Center Roller Rink. They were married in 1952, while John was on leave and awaiting deployment to Korea. They resided in Stapleton until 1956, and then moved to Westerleigh.
Mary worked for AT&T, the New Vanderbilt Nursing Home, and Staten Island Rehabilitation. She also was the neighborhood Avon lady for many years.
Mary excelled at many crafts, always being seen at church fairs and various flea markets. She was also active in Girl Scouting when her daughter was a scout. Mary and her husband enjoyed traveling to the Poconos and the Pennsylvania Dutch area and other destinations such as Hawaii and Alaska.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John; her daughter, Laura Hannan and son-in-law, Jeffrey Hannan. Also, she is survived by her beloved grandson, John Hannan, of whom she was very proud as he started his freshman year at Cornell University. Mary is also survived by her brother, John Bottone, and her sister, Elinor Carlin. She was predeceased by her brothers, Michael and Ralph Fernandez, and sister, Gladys Powell. She was also the beloved "aunt Re-Re" to her many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is at Casey Funeral Home, S.I. on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass is on Monday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 366 Watchhogue Rd., S.I., 10314
