Mary Ellen Shipp

Born and raised Mary Ellen Clarke in Manhattan, she moved to Midland Beach in 1976. She lived there until settling in New Brighton three years ago.

Mrs. Shipp worked in environmental services and housekeeping for about 20 years at Clove Lakes Health Care and Rehabilitation Services, Castleton Corners. She retired in 2006.

She was actively involved in 12-step and self-help programs, where she was known as very giving to and supportive of people in recovery and people in general, her family said.

Mrs. Shipp dearly loved her grandchildren and cherished time spent with them.

She also enjoyed traveling, and was very fond of her cat, "Sammy."

Mrs. Shipp attended St. Margaret Mary R.C. Church, Midland Beach.

Surviving are her son, Steven; her daughter, Veronica Stendardo-Sottile; a brother, Terrance Clarke; four grandchildren, and her former husband, Robert Shipp.

The Memorial Service will be Saturday 2-4 p.m & 7-9 p.m. in the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills. Arrangements include cremation.
