Norma D’Arrigo, 94, of Emerson Hill, a tireless community leader whose generosity helped a dozen Staten Island organizations thrive, died Thursday morning in New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Manhattan. With her husband, the late Surrogate Judge Charles D’Arrigo, she was a steady supporter of Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, the College of Staten Island and the YMCA and was known as a volunteer who never said “no” to chairing fundraisers and leading committees. In 2012, Mrs. D’Arrigo was honored with an Advance Woman of Achievement award. “She dedicated her life to uplift culture, protect Staten Island’s unique history and cherish our borough’s natural beauty,” said Jessica Baker Vodoor, president and CEO of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden. “Norma’s legacy will live on to impact the lives of many generations of Staten Islanders for years to come.” Survivors include two daughters, Sherilyn D’Arrigo Swords and Janice D’Arrigo Van Stolk; a son, Charles D’Arrigo Jr., and three grandchildren. Mrs. D’Arrigo was predeceased by her husband in 2016. A visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 7 from 2-6 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home at 350 Slosson Ave. The family requests donations in memory of Norma D’Arrigo to Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, SI, NY 10301.
