Patrick “PJ” Howley, 74, born and raised in the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday night, surrounded by love. PJ was the loving husband of Cathy Howley, devoted father of Kristen and Lauren, brother of Edward and Tom, and a cherished friend to many. PJ was predeceased by his dearly missed father, Patrick Howley Sr., his mother, Ellen Howley, and his brother, Jim Howley.
He was known for his warm sense of humor and deep kindness, with a natural gift for making people laugh and feel at ease. PJ had a generous spirit and was always willing to help others, offering his time, advice, or support whenever it was needed. He carried a genuine curiosity about the world around him and was an avid history buff, taking great joy in learning, listening, and sharing stories that brought people together.
PJ graduated from Lehman College and went on to attend New York Law School, fulfilling his dream of becoming an attorney. He built a distinguished career on Wall Street, most recently spending many meaningful years at Royal Bank of Canada where he served as in house council and was well respected for his intelligence, integrity, and steady guidance.
PJ lived an active lifestyle throughout his life, enjoying skiing and biking. He especially loved looking forward to summers in Hampton Bays, where he could enjoy time with family at the beach, sharing laughs, making memories, and savoring simple pleasures like fries on the beach.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM at the Harmon Home in Staten Island.
A burial service will follow on Saturday, January 3, at St. Peter’s Cemetery followed by a Repast at Jody’s at 372 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10301.
*Those who wish to attend the burial service can arrive at Harmon Funeral home at 9:30 AM Saturday January 3rd to follow the procession to St. Peter’s cemetery. The burial will occur at 10:30 at St. Peter’s cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in PJ’s memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a cause that was deeply important to him. The foundation supports America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families, building specially adapted homes for injured veterans and first responders, and helping ensure we never forget September 11, 2001.
The Howley family is grateful for the love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
