

Patsy J. Scarpato, 93, died on Sept. 19, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
Patsy was born on April 19, 1930. He attended grammar school at PS 44 and Port Richmond H.S., graduating in 1948. He then attended Brooklyn College for 2 years before being drafted into the Army where he served in the 3rd Division, rising to the rank of Lt.
Patsy was a proud Korean War Veteran and is in the NY State Veterans Hall of Fame. He has a Silver Star for gallantry in combat, a Bronze Star for meritorious service, a Purple Heart for wounds received in action, and many others too numerous to mention.
He retired as a Vice President of Human Resources at Marine Midland Bank. He was a member of the Cpl. AF. Kivlehan Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Assoc., the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the DAV and VWF 5521.
He was a member of a team of Veterans who taught students throughout Staten Island about the Korean War. He was also a member of the Great Kills Moravian Church where he sang in the choir and was Trustee for many years.
He is survived by his three sons; Richard (Grace), Stephen, and Gary (Jodi), three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and is also survived by his sister, Mary. His wife of 66 years, Barbara (Gilby) predeceased him in 2017.
Patsy enjoyed crosswords and the newspapers, as well as cheering for the NY Giants and the Mets.
A wake will be held at Casey McCallum Rice Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Ave., Staten Island on September 22, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. There will be a service at the funeral home on September 23, 2023 at 10 am.
