Captain Raymond Victor Keenan Jr., a lifelong resident of Staten Island, sadly passed away on November 8th, 2024 after a very brief illness. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, father-in-law and friend.
Ray was a Sandy Hook Pilot from 1961 to 2008. He loved his job, piloting ships in and out of New York Harbor (especially the QE2), and served on the NY NJ Sandy Hook Pilots Association Board of Trustees for many years.
An avid golfer since the age of eleven, he went on to captain his high school team at Augustinian Academy in his senior year, and later won the Silver Lake Men's Club Championship. Golf was something he greatly enjoyed for all of his life, especially when he played with his son, Neil. He loved following his favorite sports teams, the New York Rangers in particular. He was also a very (im)patient fan of the Mets and Jets.
His family was the most important thing in his life, and he especially enjoyed being with his three beautiful grandchildren, each of whom have been blessed with his kind and generous heart.
Ray is survived by his wife, Peggy, his two children, Jill (John) Casertano, his son Neil (Rachel), and his grandchildren John & Ellen Casertano and Noah Keenan. He will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation for Ray will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 10 Austin Place, Staten Island, NY 10304 on Thursday, November 14th at 10AM.
