

Richard E. Casparie, a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 15, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on August 18, 1953, Richard was the son of the late Ernest and June Casparie (nee Blauth), and grew up in his native Staten Island.
Richard leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his siblings Barbara Valentine, Steven Casparie, and Linda Valenti. Richard was a cherished father to Heather Carlasare (Mario), Laura Stuart (James), Ernest Casparie (Lydia), and Richard James Casparie. His greatest joy came from being a "Pop Pop" to his six grandchildren, Juliet, Clara, Cecilia, Angelina, Declan, and Marco, with whom he shared an extraordinarily special bond.
Richard's passion for music and education shaped his life's work. He dedicated 48 years to teaching and inspiring countless students as a music educator and Band Director. Graduating from the Manhattan School of Music with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree, Richard excelled as a French horn player and was renowned for his talent and dedication. He instilled in his children a profound appreciation for music and nature, a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
Beyond his musical pursuits, Richard was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace in fishing, hunting, and exploring nature. He found joy in the ocean and spent many happy hours at the Great Kills Marina. His lake house in the Catskill Mountains provided a sanctuary where he could connect with his family and the natural world he so cherished. He was one of the founding members of Trout Unlimited Upper Delaware Chapter.
Throughout his life, Richard remained committed to his community, serving as the Band teacher at various Staten Island schools and directing the Staten Island Jazz and Concert Band for many years. His impact on his students and colleagues was immeasurable, leaving a lasting imprint on the musical landscape of Staten Island.
Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, warmth, and passion for life touched the hearts of many. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, located at 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 9:45 AM at St. Clare's Church, 110 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308.
Richard's spirit will live on in the memories of those he touched and the music he shared with the world. May he rest in peace.
