STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Longtime West Brighton resident Richard F. Haas, 72, a retired brokerage employee and U.S. Army veteran who is remembered as a doting grandfather, died Tuesday in Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton.
Born and raised in Queens, he moved to West Brighton in 1970.
Mr. Haas served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.
He had a 40-year career working for several brokerage firms on Wall Street. He retired in 2002.
Mr. Haas enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He also was a New York Rangers fan.
His wife of 31 years, the former Grace Miller, died in 1998.
Surviving are his son, John; his daughters, Jennifer Haas and Meredith Perkert, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, West Brighton. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
