Salvatore "Toto" Trifiro passed away on July 20, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on November 13, 1929, in Milazzo, Italy, Salvatore lived a life full of love, family, and dedication. He was a resident of Staten Island, New York.
Salvatore graduated from high school and went on to become a self-employed wholesale meat distributor, a career from which he eventually retired at age 79. He was the beloved husband of the late Angela Trifiro, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2021. Together, they raised four children: Robert Trifiro, Mary Arrigo, Salvatore Trifiro, and Josie Byrnes. Toto's legacy continues through his 10 grandchildren—Michael Trifiro, Timmy Trifiro, Laura Reed, Justine Arrigo, Lisa Palmer, Jaclyn Dellauniversita Arrigo, Cooper Byrnes, Duncan Byrnes, Nicholas Trifiro, and Juliet Trifiro—and seven great-grandchildren—Matthew Trifiro, Mia Trifiro, Angelina Palmer, Alessia Palmer, Andi Dellauniversita, Wes Reed, and Cole Reed.
After his wife Angela passed away he spent countless hours learning to cook, through books, cooking shows, and trial and error. He became our family's "World Class Chef" Bravo!
In his personal life, Salvatore had a passion for soccer and gardening, and he cherished his pet fish. He was actively involved in his community, serving as the honorary president of the Brooklyn Italian Soccer Club, and participated in the Senior Club and Soccer Club. His greatest accomplishments, as he often said, were his four children and his garden.
Salvatore was known for his wisdom and humor, often sharing his thoughts with memorable quotes like, "Trust, but verify," and "One day I was like you, and if you're lucky, one day you'll be like me!" He also humorously advised, "Don't trust the weekend staff."
A visitation will be held at Casey-McCallum Rice Funeral Home, located at 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308, on July 23, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church, St. Clare's Church, Staten Island, NY 10308, on July 24, 2025, at 9:45 am. Following the service, the committal will occur at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Ave, Staten Island, NY 10309, at 11:15 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude.
Salvatore's life was a testament to love, dedication, and community, and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
