STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Santa Locastro, 92, a longtime Dongan Hills resident and devoted volunteer in her community, died Monday in the Clove Lakes Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Castleton Corners, where she had been a resident since 2008.
Born Santa Cimino in South Beach, she moved to Dongan Hills in the early 1940s.
Mrs. Locastro worked as a seamstress in the garment industry for about 14 years. During her retirement, she spent 25 years as a volunteer at the former Senior Citizen Friendship Club in the Berry Homes in Dongan Hills, and spent four years on the group's executive board.
In her leisure time, she loved to cook for her family and spend time with them, especially her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Mrs. Locastro had a kind-heart and got along with everyone, her family said, and just loved being around people.
She was a parishioner of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.
Her husband of 36 years, Joseph, died in 1974.
Surviving are her son, Anthony Locastro; a daughter, Frances LaGuardia; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church. Burial will follow in Forest Green Memorial Park Cemetery, Morganville, N.J.
