

Born in Travis, he lived in West Brighton for most of his life before settling in Great Kills in 2002.
He graduated from McKee High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service at the Manor Road facility in Castleton Corners, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was known by relatives and friends for his strength and integrity, his family said.
Mr. Modzelewski was also a volunteer firefighter for the Oceanic Hook & Ladder Company in Travis, and enjoyed taking bus trips to Atlantic City.
He was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church in West Brighton.
His wife of 40 years, the former Edith D. Kain, died in 1992.
Surviving are two sons, Michael and Paul; two daughters, Barbara Jean and Deborah Leigh, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, West Brighton. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
