Susan Malley, born in Brooklyn, NY, and former resident of Bayonne, NJ, and Breezy Point, NY, died Wednesday, December 13th at Sunrise New Dorp assisted living in Staten Island, NY surrounded by her devoted family. Courage, humor and love were her weapons as she battled pancreatic cancer.
Susan graduated from St. Brendan’s High School, studied art at Brooklyn College and graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School. Her most recent professional experience was at DTCC (Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation since 2011) as a Senior Associate/Compliance Training Development. Susan was dedicated to her work and brought organization, collaboration, and humor to her interactions with colleagues. Over the years, Susan developed close friendships with many colleagues at work and regarded them as her extended family.
Among Susan’s strongest traits were her tremendous wit, sweet personality, generosity, and kindness towards her friends and family. Susan was gifted with a profound perception of people and her loving compassion was always deeply appreciated.
In her leisure time, Susan enjoyed reading mysteries, watching Broadway shows, classic films (especially featuring Cary Grant), and the Muppet Show with her nephews and niece. She was a talented artist and her paintings were a key decorative feature in their nursery. Susan’s arrival at Christmas always required a phalanx of assistance because she brought so many gifts for everyone. Her assistance as prep chef and lead dishwasher at holiday meals will be sorely missed – her love created beautiful memories for all of us. Susan especially appreciated the time spent with her cousins at family celebrations, especially the Malley family reunions at the Balsam Shade Resort in the Catskills.
Susan is survived by her sister, Mary Anne, her “brother” Don Semon, and her nephews and nieces: John Lucas D’Amico, Donald, Kimberly and grandniece Sophia Teresa Semon, Margaret, Joe and grandnephew Joseph Michael Gervasi, Jr., and Robert Semon. Susan is pre-deceased by her parents, Donald (1976) and Mary Malley (2017), and her sister, Barbara (2003). They have reserved a seat for her at Our Lord Jesus’ banquet table in Heaven.
A visitation for Susan will be held Monday, December 18, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, New York 10314. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 30 Manor Rd, Staten Island, New York 10310.
