

Talton Alphonso “Casey” Mitchell was born on November 17, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Mattie James Mitchell and Talton A. Callahan. On June 5, 2024, “ Casey” as he was affectionately called entered into eternal rest.
During his early years, Casey attended New York’s public schools. In 1978 he and his family moved to Hartsville SC and attended Hartsville High School where he played on the basketball team. He and his family later relocated back to Staten Island, New York where he attended and graduated from Curtis High School. Casey was raised in a God-fearing home. As a young boy, he regularly attended Holy Nazarene House of Prayer for all people in Brooklyn, NY.
On August 20, 2007, he married his best friend and the love of his life, Yvonne Powell Mitchell. Casey absolutely adored his wife. He affectionately called her “Precious;” and in turn, Yvonne affectionately called him “Popi.” The joy they brought to one another in their relationship was recognized and admired by everyone they encountered. Within this union, together they raised two beautiful daughters, Janel and Alexis. He was also blessed with four wonderful grandchildren, Devonte, Jada, Hermoine and Zameena. Casey spent as much quality time as possible with his babies.
Casey had an abundance of love for family, friends, basketball and music. Casey strengthened many men and women with his genuine care and concern. He had charm, a sense of humor, swag and a whole lot of wisdom and knowledge. Casey had and infectious smile that shined bright and radiated to others. Casey knew no strangers, he was friendly, talkative, outgoing and confident. Casey would minister to anyone in need.
Casey leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of nineteen years Yvonne Powell- Mitchell of the home, Two daughters, Jenel and Alexis Binghamton NY, four grandchildren, Devonte, Jada, Hermione and Zameena. Three sisters, Sharon Mitchell of Brunswick Ga., Angela Mitchell, Bronx New York, and Sharon Callahan-Wormworth, Brooklyn NY, and a bonus sister, Aiesha Sanchez and her daughter Shantel Wiggins, Binghamton NY . Two Brothers, Rory Mitchell of Staten Island NY, and Dirk (Pam) Mitchell, Pageland SC. Two brother-in-laws, Tyree Mickens, Walter Powells, a sister in law, Lakeasha Nickens. Two aunts, Delores Pinkett, Gloucester VA, and aunt who helped raise him Gertha James, Hartsville SC. His childhood friend Dean Molette. A host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A visitation for Casey will be held Sunday, June 16, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Virginia Funeral Chapel, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. A committal service will occur Monday, June 17, 2024 from 12:45 PM to 1:00 PM at Rosehill Cemetery and Crematory, 792 E Edgar Rd, Linden, NJ 07036.
