Trudy Jelen

Gertrude (Trudy) P. Jelen, age 75, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017. She was born on June 25, 1942 in Dublin, Ireland. She lived in Dongan Hills Colony for 50 years. Trudy thoroughly enjoyed going to Meadowlands racetrack, OTB and Parx casino. She was an avid traveler who travelled to 11 countries and 37 states. Her favorite destination was Aruba, which always reminded her of Hawaii. She loved sports including Basketball and Football. Her favorite past time was watching sports with her son. Her favorite teams were the New York Giants and New York Knicks and her favorite football player was Tom Brady. Trudy always loved languages and would practice them whenever she had a chance. Trudy enjoyed working for many years on Wall Street. Her last job was as a secretary for the Port of Boston. She was fortunate enough to be able to retire at the age of 50. She was an animal lover who owned several dogs, most recently her beagle named Bandit. Trudy was always laughing and looking to have fun. She was proud of her Irish heritage and hoped to one-day visit Ireland one last time. Trudy is survived by her loving husband Walter of 36 years, her son Craig, daughter in law Jeannine and beloved grandson Logan. Funeral Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2017 at Virginia Funeral Chapel. Viewings will be from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Mass will be held at Saint Ann’s on Friday November 4th 2017 at 11am. Burial to follow at Saint Peter’s Cemetery.
