Born in Brooklyn, he was brought to Oakwood as a child and attended New Dorp High School. Mr. Daupheny served in the U.S. Navy as a young man. He later lived in Midland Beach before settling in Eltingville last year.
A self-employed contractor, Mr. Daupheny had also worked for RCI Plumbing, and as a bartender at Lincoln Tavern in Grant City.
In his leisure time, Mr. Daupheny was an avid reader.
“Willie was a charming, charismatic brother and friend, and few knew that he was also a poet just like his father. He will be missed by all,” said his sister, Liz Nelson.
In addition to his sister, Liz, surviving are his brother, Michael, and five more sisters, Theresa Skelly, Maryellen Guittila, Bonnie Candrilli, Laura Perrotta and Jennifer Daupheny.
Arrangements for a private funeral and cremation are being handled by the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills.
