

Mr. Belton H. Braswell, age 91 passed away Wednesday June 1, 2016 at Southern Manor Retirement Inn under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mr. Braswell was a native of Waynesboro, GA. He grew up in Statesboro and graduated from Statesboro High School.
He attended the University of Georgia, majoring in Business Administration with a degree in Marketing. He also received a minor in Food Science and attended Louisiana State University for a special course in Food Preservation. He joined the United States Army in World War II and served in the South Pacific, New Guinea & the Dutch East Indies. He received a Combat Infantryman’s Badge and several service ribbons. After the war he returned to Statesboro and worked as President of Braswell Foods for 48 years. He was a charter member of Statesboro Kiwanis Club, serving as President & Lieutenant-Governor of Kiwanis International. He Joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity at The University of Georgia and was active in the local chapter serving as President. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Statesboro. He also served on the Statesboro Housing Authority Board.
Mr. Braswell was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. & Lillian Braswell Sr., his brother, A. M. Braswell Jr., his Son Danny Braswell, a son-in-law, Dai Tanno and a brother-in-law John Zulick.
Survivors Include his wife Jean Starr Braswell; daughter Kay Tanno; Grandson Alfred Tanno all of Statesboro; two nieces, Bonnie Powers and Susan (Ed) Haymans; nephew, Al (Diane) Braswell, aII of Statesboro.
Funeral Services will be at 10AM Saturday, June 4, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Statesboro with visitation from 9AM until the funeral hour with the Rev. Jimmy Cason officiating. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter.
Active Pallbearers will be; Frank Hook, Bob Hook, Rick Smith, Freddie Blitch, Gordon Williams, and Ronnie Ruffo.
