

Ernesto “Nesto” Pagan, (Papa Pagan) age 57, passed away Friday, May 19th from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Pagan was born in Charleston, SC and lived several years Savannah as a child, before returning to Charleston. While in Charleston, Nesto attended public schools graduating from Bishop-England High School in 1977. After graduation, he attended Trident Technical College, where he received an associate’s degree in business administration. In 1988, Nesto moved from Charleston to Nevils, where he resided until his death. Mr. Pagan was employed by Walker Home Medical Equipment Company and was a member of the Catholic faith. Nesto was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a talented gunsmith, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren, Ella and Rowan.
His parents, Ralph and Frances Vasquez Pagan and mother-in-law, Madelyn Newman, preceded him in death.
Mr. Pagan is survived by his wife, of 41 years, Gladys Martin Pagan of Nevils; daughter, Karla Pagan Upshaw and her husband, Bob of Southaven, Miss; sons, Daniel Pagan of Nevils and Tommy Pagan and his wife, Leslie of Collins; sister, Rosie Annabring and her husband, David of Orlando, FL; brothers, Eddie Pagan of Charleston, SC; Richie Pagan of Nevils; Jimmy Pagan of Marietta, SC; Johnny Cook of Florida and Michael Cook of Charleston, SC; father-in-law, Deweese Martin and his wife, Rosemarie of Nevils; two great-grandchildren, Ella Pagan and Rowan Pagan; many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, May 25th in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A private funeral service will be held on Friday followed by a private burial in Nevils United Methodist Church Cemetery.
