

Mr. Fred Clifton, age 87 went peacefully to his eternal home on May 30, 2013 at Ogeechee Area Hospice. He passed surrounded by his loved ones and the dedicated and loving staff of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He proudly served his country during WWII. Fred received the Victory Ribbon, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon and the American Theater Ribbon. Stationed in Germany as the war ended, he bravely helped to relocate Jews out of concentration camps. Fred graduated from Brooklet High School in 1944. Fred was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church. Fred farmed a 150 acre farm with his Father for several years raising peanuts, corn and tobacco and they also raised cows, hogs and poultry. Fred retired from White Sheet Metal as a sheet metal worker. Sports were a huge love of Fred’s. He played softball well into his 50’s. He also loved watching sports (especially baseball). Watching his oldest great-grandson Walker play baseball and football brought him much joy! Fred loved many things, but his greatest love of all was his sweetheart, his wife of almost 67 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed teasing and playing with his grands and great grands.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, William Bulloch and Ruth Daughtry Clifton, his sister, Erma Clifton Gwinnett and three brothers, Billy Clifton, Franklin Clifton and George Clifton.
He leaves many fond memories to be cherished by his loving wife, Margaret Gunter Clifton, his daughter, Freddie Clifton Law, two granddaughters: Nicole Stuart (and husband, Jason), Julie Davidson Thompson (and husband, Brad), six great grandchildren, Walker Stuart, Laura Stuart, Kinsleigh Thompson, Jeremiah Stuart, Kaden Thompson, Georgia Beth Stuart, a sister, Mickie Clifton Hodges and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephanie Smith officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
