
Harry Allen Sack, Jr. died at the age of 79 on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. He was born on February 26, 1935 in Augusta, Georgia. He moved to Statesboro at the age of 2 and resided here until his death. He was a graduate of Statesboro High School and Georgia Tech. Mr. Sack served in the United States Army as an x-ray technician for two years. He was the proprietor of Sack Design Haus for many years and enjoyed serving and laughing with his customers.
Mr. Sack was a member of Saint Matthews Catholic Church of Statesboro. When his family moved to Statesboro there were only three Catholic families. His father, Harry Sack, was instrumental in building the church along with the Strozzo and DeNitto families.
He had a passion for music, playing the piano, cooking, reading, and caring for animals. He also enjoyed cheering on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Georgia Southern Eagles. He always had a joke or two he was willing to share with others, which always ended with his infectious and unforgettable laughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Allen Sack, Sr. and Anne Sylvester Sack; and his baby sister, Joan Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Ellen DeVlaming Sack. He is also survived by his three sons: Harry Allen Sack, III, Lawton (Melissa) Sack, and Jon David Sack, all of Statesboro. He also left behind three grandchildren, William, Evamarie, and Emma Sack, all of Statesboro.
Mr. Sack is survived by seven of his siblings: Anne (Nancy) Williams of Ft. Myers, Florida, Claire (Wayne) Krissinger of Statesboro, Mary (Bob) White of Concord, Massachusetts, Julia Pollak of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Marc (Connie) Sack of Tennile, GA, Ed Sack of Lakeland, Florida, and Marion (Linda) Sack of Apopka, Florida.
He leaves behind dozens of cousins, nephews, and nieces that were dear to his heart.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 PM until the funeral hour at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
Memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, May 3 in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Father Michael Smith and Rev. Cary Swanson officiating.
