

Inman David Davis, age 91, of Statesboro, Georgia, died January 10, 2011, in Statesboro, Georgia. He was born in Blun, Georgia on April 16, 1919, to David Larkin and Lizzie Wiggins Davis. Following graduation from Summertown and Georgia Teacher’s College (Georgia Southern) he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served as a pilot and navigator during World War II. Following the war, Inman enrolled at Peabody College (Vanderbilt), graduating with a Master’s Degree. After teaching Industrial Arts for several years he landed a job as a principal at Lavonia, Georgia, beginning a long career in Education Administration. Inman was a Mason, a member of the Statesboro Noon Lions Club, and a former Georgia Lions District Governor. He was elected to the Georgia Lions Hall of Fame and honored with the Dean Day Smith Award. Inman joined the Summertown Baptist Church as a teenager and continued to support Summertown Baptist Church the rest of his life. He is a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church of Statesboro, Georgia. Inman enjoyed construction projects and working with children. He never passed up an opportunity to speak to a group and often volunteered to “put on a program”. Inman was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Powell (Ben), three brothers, Melvin Malcolm Davis (Mary), Clinton Richard Davis (Juanita) and Paul Emmitt Davis (Martha), and a nephew, Patrick Joseph Ware.
He is survived by his wife, Runette Hitchcock Davis; son Don Larkin Davis (Sandra) of Gainesville, Florida; daughter Temi Rue Poythress (Dennis) of Newington, Georgia; sons Inman Dwight Davis (Donna), Kenneth David Davis (Diane) and Clinton Clyde Davis, all of Miami, Florida. Others include granddaughter, Noel (Tripp) Miller of Jacksonville, FL, grandson, Ben Scott Davis of Miami, Florida; granddaughters Sarah Anne Poythress and Elizabeth Grace Poythress of Newington, Georgia; granddaughter Megan Swan (E.J.) of Valley, Alabama, great granddaughter, Vincent Swan of Valley, Alabama, sisters Helen Davis Rogers (Oneal) of Blun, Georgia and Peggy Joyce Ware (Robert) of Jacksonville, Florida.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at the Statesboro First Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Statesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. John Waters, Dr. H. William Perry, and Rev. Hubert Tankersley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Wiggins Cemetery in Blun, Georgia (Emanuel County).
