

Shelton was born in Sylvania, raised in Dade City, FL and was a longtime resident of Statesboro. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern College receiving his Bachelors of Science degree and Masters of Education of Social Sciences degree. Shelton was employed with Georgia Southern University for 30 years, working as the Dean of Men, Director of the Financial Aid Department and the Assistant Director of the Human Resources Department. He was a member of Pittman Park United Methodist Church and was a member of LEGS (Larry, Ed, Glenn and Shelton) meeting every Thursday for over 40 years to plan fishing trips and tailgating events. Shelton was an avid supporter of the Southern Boosters and all things concerning the Georgia Southern Eagles. He was preceded in death by his father, John Dell Evans and his wife of 27 years, Marcia Glover Evans.
He is survived by daughters, Dana Evans Wright and her husband, Wade of Guyton and Staci Evans Bennett and her husband Jeff of St. Simons Island, mother, Estelle Delk Evans of Cape Coral, FL, brothers, John Dell Evans, II and his wife, Terry of Otto, NC and Randy Evans and his wife, Debbie of Cape Coral, FL, granddaughters, Ansleigh Wright of Guyton and Landri Bennett of St. Simons Island, several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 29, 2015 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held 1:30 PM Friday, January 30, 2015 in Pittman Park United Methodist Church with the Reverend Bill Bagwell officiating. Mr. Evans will lie in state from 12:30 PM until the funeral hour.
Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
