John Alton Brown

John was born in Nevils, GA to John Willis and Ethel Frost Brown and attended Nevils School. He worked on his family’s farm as a child and young man learning the value of hard work and the love of family. John was an avid musician, who loved playing the guitar and writing music and worked as an Elvis impersonator in the 1950’s. John worked for over 13 years in the textile industry in Bath, SC and retired, in 1994, after 18 years of service from the Loxcreen Company, in Brooklet. John attended Bible Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He inspired many people to write and perform music and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and strangers.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by eight siblings; grandson, Ricky Martin and daughter-in-law, Debra Lynn Stubbs.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanette J. Brown of Statesboro; daughter, Carolyn Smith of Tooele, Utah; sons, John Alan Brown and his former wife, Lisa Dawn Brown of Statesboro and Johnny Brown and his wife, Ilene of Metter; sister, Inez Rigdon of Statesboro; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2016 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2016 in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathan Edmisten officiating.

Burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be John Brown, John Dillon Brown, Joshua Alan Brown, Timothy Hunter Mitchell, Glen Sizemore and Carroll Sizemore.
