

Mr. Lonnie Blevins Sr., age 71, died at peace in his home early Monday morning. Mr. Blevins retired after 20 years in the United States Army. He completed two tours in Vietnam , Korea, Germany and Okinawa. His unit was responsible for frontline communications ; often referred to as “First in, last out” . He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Leo College at Fort Stewart. He worked 20 years as a civil servant and was a former partner of Superglass Windshield Repair . Mr. Blevins had duel membership at Eastern Heights `Baptist Church and First Freewill Baptist Church of Hayesville, N.C. He loved people, recanting war stories, fishing, a good cup of coffee and especially spending time with his grandchildren, which , at his request, referred to him as “ ugly old man”. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Mr. Blevins is predeceased by his parents Paul and Willie Mae Blevins, Sr. a brother, Bill Blevins and and infant sister Elva Lou Blevins.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Margaret Blevins of Statesboro; his sons, Jim Johnson (Becky) of Statesboro, Lonnie Blevins Jr. (Maria) of Statesboro; his daughters, Sandra Albaugh (Mike) of Pembroke, Sonie Minshew (John) of Bluffton, SC, Niki Haddock (Matt) of Portal, and Pamela Swiney of Spring, TX; two sisters, Eva Belle Diaz of Pamona, CA, Nora Byres of Nevada; three brothers, Leonard Blevins of California, Bobby Blevins of California, Tommy Blevins of Porter, TX; grandchildren, Rachel Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Duston Stafford, Dylan Stafford, Abagail Mancel, BreAnna Collins, Angel Collins, Cindel Albaugh, Claudia Minshew, Reese Haddock, Kyle Haddock, Richard Parker, Sissy Parker, and Mikey Beaumont; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. at Eastern Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Harry Sherrer and Pastor Chris Rumfelt officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at Lawrence Baptist Church Cemetery.
Hodges-Moore Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
