Mrs. Marie Spence Lingo, age 67, died Thursday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. She was a native and longtime resident of Bulloch County and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mrs. Lingo enjoyed watching her family play sports and was their most faithful fan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Alice Conner Spence; three brothers, Lit Spence, Lamar Spence, Edwin Spence; and two sisters, Isabelle Rushing and Bobbie Barber.
Marie was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was called "YaYa" by her grandchildren. A loving aunt to her nieces and nephews with whom she always kept an open line of communication. If you ever had a moment to sit and talk with her, which normally if you crossed her path you didn't have a choice in the matter. She would talk your ears off about her kids and grandkids. Her favorite past time was talking on her cell phone, being with her family, and listening to Gospel music. She was a child of God and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Recently when she wasn't feeling her best, she always kept in touch with Pastor Tom and Pastor Barnes.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Danny T. Lingo of Statesboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Maria Tanner of Portal; three daughters and a son-in-law, Becky Allen of Statesboro, Dawne Lingo of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Skye and Larry Mercer of Statesboro; six grandchildren, Andrea Whitfield, Nicole Williams, Steven Tanner, Chad Allen, Mackenzie Mercer and Olivia Mercer; four great-grandchildren, Journi Rodriguez, Tanner Whitfield, Taylor Whitfield and Zoey Williams; one brother and sister-in-law, I.W. and Virginia Spence of Portal; one sister and brother-in-law, Martha Sue and Howard Davis of Spring Lake, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Harold Barber of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
