

Mr. Melvin Sherrill Rushing, age 80, went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2016. He was a resident of Browns Health Care and Ogeechee Area Hospice. Melvin was a native of Bulloch County, but spent many years in Florida before returning back to his hometown. While in Florida, he was a General Manager of the Jacksonville Times Union News Paper for several years, then General Manager of Swains Steakhouse in Clearwater, Fl. In later years, he served as a Pharmacy Courier with Senior Care. As his family said, “He was a loving Father to two daughters and a grandfather to three grandchildren.” He was a hard worker, strong willed, out spoken, a man of many talents and will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lillian Zetterower Rushing and Colon Morgan Rushing, two brothers John Gilbert Rushing and Charles Inman Rushing.
Survivors are two daughters and son in laws, Charlotte Paige (Brian) of Evans, Ga. and Jessica Thompson (John) of Statesboro; sister Annette Bailey (Bobby) of Statesboro; Grandchildren, Kyle Thompson, Grayson Paige, Preston Thompson; Nieces, Candi Smith, Debbie Woolard (Elton), Julie Kidd (David); nephew, Dr. Glenn Bailey (Kelli).
Graveside services will be held Monday Morning at 11:00am at Brannen Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Greene officiating
