
Mr. Robert Oscar Petty, age 66, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Mr. Petty, a native of Dublin, Ga., served his country as a soldier in the U. S. Army. He completed a tour in Vietnam and accomplished nearly 300 jumps as a paratrooper during his service. After his military discharge, he moved to and made his life in Statesboro . Mr. Petty worked as a mechanic for White’s Mufflers, now known as Lakeston Mufflers, until his retirement due to failing health. After retirement, he enjoyed tinkering with metal in his workshop, fishing in his pond, and gardening on the five acres he called home. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be dearly missed. Mr. Petty is preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Mrs. Mary Eva Quick Petty.
Survivors include his sons, Robert Petty, Gerome Petty and Dewayne Beasley; daughter, Angela Thompson; 8 grandchildren, several great- grandchildren; brothers, Herman Petty, Eddie Petty, Johnny Petty, and Gene Petty; sisters, Jeanette francis , and Barbara Ann Shepard; aunt, Betty Landrum, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday evening 6-9 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with the Reverend Patrick McElveen officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in Lower Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
