Vernon Collins

Mr. Vernon Collins, age 80, passed away Wednesday at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was a longtime resident of Bulloch County and worked with Meadow Gold for eighteen years and Logan Hagan Welding Supply for thirty three years. Mr. Collins was a member of Bible Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his yard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Early and Kate Collins, his first wife, Mary Lou Collins, two sisters, Louise Sandell and Jereldine Minick; and two brothers, Jay Collins and Collie Collins.

Survivors include his wife, Liz Williams Collins of Statesboro; two daughters, Charlotte (Eddie) Roundtree of Statesboro, and Donna Smith (William Keerbs) of Pikeville, NC; five sisters, Earline Barber of Statesboro, Faye Sosby of Jonesboro, Ottie Bell of Brooklet, Martha Chaffin of Brooklet, and Joanne Fordham of Brooklet; two brothers, Darwin (Evon) Collins of Ellabell, and Freddie (Peggy) Collins of Richmond Hill; sister-in-law, Ann Collins of Eden; three grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson, Shannon Taylor, and Brandon Smith,; two step children, Tracy Williams and Sharon Tyler; five step grandchildren, Stacey (Cory) Akins, Hannah (Patrick) Ford, Andrew Hall, and Sarah Beth Williams, William Keerbs, Jr. ; and two step great grandchildren, Bryson Akins, Masey Ford.

Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Bible Baptist Church.

Active pallbearers will be Frank Collins, Stacy Collins, Paul Hires, Russell Hires, Clayton Bell, and Ken Sosby.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Hagan, Tommy Hagan, Paul Quill, Darrell Colson, Jeff Eason, Tripp Hagan, Gary Wilhelm, Hugh Marsh, and H. Quick.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
