

Mr. Wyatt Malcolm Johnson, age 84, died early Sunday at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. Born in Camilla, Georgia, February 28, 1926, the son of Oscar and Evelyn Parrish Johnson, Wyatt was a graduate of Richmond Hill High School and a charter member of the Richmond Hill First Methodist Church. He enlisted in the Army Air Force and was discharged as an aviation cadet as the war ended in 1945. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1951, with a major in Chemistry and was also a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
In 1953, Wyatt married Janette Burt of Ochlocknee, Georgia, and soon located in Statesboro, where he was the owner of a wholesale petroleum business. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Dan Williams Sunday School Class and served as MYF counselor for several years. Wyatt was involved in several civic and local organizations. He was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club, serving as president and lieutenant governor, and was one of the organizers of the original Ogeechee Fair. He has been Kiwanian of the Year and has received the George F. Hixson award and the Heritage Society award. Wyatt also served on the Statesboro Planning Commission as chairman and on the Statesboro Tree Board. He was a member of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Association and the American Legion Post 90.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Janette B. Johnson of Statesboro; and several cousins.
The funeral service was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Statesboro First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Cason, the Rev. Thad Harvey and Dr. Charles Houston officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sigma Chi Alumni and members of Statesboro Kiwanis Club and Dan Williams Sunday School Class.
The graveside service and burial will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Ochlocknee Cemetery in Ochlocknee, Ga., with Dr. Charles Houston officiating.
