

She was born May 23, 1939, in Catawba County and was the daughter of the late Clyde and Bessie Rice Duke. She was a faithful and active member of First Wesleyan Church where she held various offices and positions and taught Sunday school for many years. She was from Jantzen as a retired textile inspector and also enjoyed reading, flower gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Duke, Clyde Duke, Jr., and Clayton Duke.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Daniel Rumple, Jr. whom she married on March 31, 1959; four daughters, Barbara (Ricky) Warren of Troutman, Tammy (Jonathan) Queen and Lisa (Dennis) White, both of Statesville, and Dana (Kim) Meyer of Harmony; a sister, Betty Yates of Statesville; four grandsons; a granddaughter; two step-granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; a great-grandson; eight step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Atha’s life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 18, 2014, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernie Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM this evening (Friday, October 17) at the funeral home and at other times, will be assembled at the residence.
