

He was born to the late Rev. Johnny H. Luffman and Sallie Holcomb Luffman, of Ronda, in 1934.
Avery attended Wilkes County Schools and Evans College of Commerce in Concord. He served two years in the United States Army. He retired from Southern Screw Company after 28 years.
Avery was a long time member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, serving in many positions. He enjoyed antiquing, estate auctions, and flea markets. He loved his church and his family very much.
Those left to cherish his memory are, his wife of 61 years, Annie Sue Malcolm, his daughter Debbie Talbert, and two grandchildren, Anna Murdock (Matthew) and Jonathan Talbert. He also had a special foster great-grandson, Willy.
Other survivors include three sisters, Gracie Luffman, Elsie Luffman (Jessie) of Mooresville, and Vermelle Triplett of Statesville; one brother, Nelson Luffman (Jeanie) of Mooresville as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers Gerald, Jehu, Albert, and Hubert Luffman; one sister, Elvie Gurley, and a very special son-in-law, whom he loved as a son, Dave Talbert.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregiver, Brenda Haines and the Gordon Hospice House of Statesville.
The family will receive friends on Monday July 11 from 7:00-9:00pm at Bunch Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville.
A celebration of life service will be held at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Statesville on Tuesday July 12 at 2:00pm. Officiating will be Rev. Conley Matlock, Rev. Talmage Holler, and Rev. Michael Brown. Burial will be at the Iredell Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
