Dossie “Dot” Cothren Jordan, 98, got the new body she had been asking for on Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House with her family by her side. Dossie was born in Wilkes County on November 28, 1920 to the late George W. Cothren and Ada Harris Cothren. She was one of ten children. She was married to the late James Hubert Jordan who passed away in 1993. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Alton Kent Jordan; by her brothers, Charlie Cothren and William Cothren; by her sisters, Lula Johnson, Beatrice Call, and Esther Gatton.
She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church and loved her church. She loved her Bible and telling others about Jesus. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, always putting others first. One highlight of her life was her first and only plane trip to California to the Crystal Cathedral with her grandson Jamie Jordan and her friend, Clovis Safriet. She worked in textiles until she was almost 80 years old.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Ray and Judy S. Jordan, of Statesville. A daughter-in-law, Glenda Jordan of Statesville, also survives her. She is also survived by a sister, Marie Smithey of N. Wilkesboro, NC; by grandchildren, Rodney Lynn Jordan and wife Ann of Statesville, Judy McHargue of Statesville and Jamie Jordan of Stony Point; by two step-grandchildren, Melia Mason and Dayna Terblanche; by great-grandchildren, Nickie Metz of Statesville, Angel Dameron of Statesville, Brandi Taylor and husband Cody of Taylorsville, NC and Kristi Crouch of Statesville. Three step great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren also survive her. Her sister-in law, Dare Cothren of Thomasville, and her devoted and faithful friend Jean Carlton survive her.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 15, 2019 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville. A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Tony Bunton, will follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Jamie Jordan, Cody Taylor, Bill Cothren, Randy Oakley, Alvin Call and Vic Crouch will serve as pallbearers.
