

He was born July 4, 1935, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Harry Dillard and Mary Fleming Brawley Walker. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Hiddenite. He retired from Southern Screws Company’s Header Department after 32 years of service followed by 7 years of service with Getrag Corporation in Maiden. Some of the things he enjoyed most in life were motorcycles and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons sharing with them the art of casting a rod. He taught his grandsons a lot about fishing and he participated in many bass fishing tournaments.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lonnie and Donnie Walker.
Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years, Juanita Levan Walker, whom he married on March 23, 1955; a daughter, Robin Dobson and her husband, Dwayne and their children, Jacob and Jordan Dobson of Union Grove; a son, Robert E. Walker and his wife, Rita and their children, Jamie and Lewis Walker of Statesville; two sisters, Louise Walker and Jane Forsyth (Gene Harris); two brothers, Dillard Walker and his wife, Faye and Larry Walker and his wife, Emily, all of Stony Point; and a special friend and great nephew, Tyler Walker of Stony Point.
Funeral services celebrating Fred’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 28, 2011, at Fairview Baptist Church in Hiddenite with the Rev. James R. Fox officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Sunday at the church prior to the service.
