

Rev. Harold Gray King, 83, of 121 Devon Lane, Statesville, died unexpectedly onTuesday, May 20th at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Iredell County on May 24, 1930, he was a son of the late Coley King and Nell Mayhew King. Rev. King was a Wesleyan Minister. He was a graduate with a B.A. in Theology from Southern Wesleyan University in 1957. He pastored in the Wesleyan Church from 1957 until 1995. He has filled in at Oakland Presbyterian Church and has pastored Shiloh Presbyterian Church for the past 15 years, serving as Pastor at the time of his death. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War in the 3rd Military Police in the 3rd Infantry Division. He received 2 Bronze Stars while in service. He was also a member of American Legion Post # 65 of Statesville.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joan Cantrell King, a daughter, Lucretia Rogers (Jimmy) of Stanley, N.C., two grandchildren: Briana and Conan Pettit (Tiffany) and two great grandchildren: Jacob and Haley Pettit. Also surviving is a brother, Fred Gilbert King of Mooresville.
A celebrating of Rev. King's life will be held at 11:00 Saturday, May 24th at the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Lumston officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council at the Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday evening at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
