James "Jim" Coley Eidson

He was born June 30, 1940, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Robert Lee and Minnie Pearl Horton Eidson. He was a branch manager for Coca-Cola in Statesville and Burlington and retired as driver and branch manager with Maola Milk and Ice Cream. He was a member of Monticello Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and was Director of Music for a number of years. He was a long-time member and former Chief of the Monticello Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed gospel singing and was a member of the Singing Spirituals Quartet for many years. He loved blue-grass music, camping and especially enjoyed the mountains.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Spears; and three brothers, Johnny Eidson, Frank Eidson, and David Eidson.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rovena Parks Eidson, whom he married on December 5, 1959; three sons, Derek (Elsa) Eidson of New Orleans, Keith (Lisa) Eidson of Charleston, SC, and Scott (Becky) Eidson of Huntersville; two daughters, Sheila (Darren) Johnson and Becky (Wesley) Tomlin, both of Statesville; two brothers, Clyde (Hazel) Eidson of Charlotte and Billy Jack Eidson of Benton, NC; a sister, Betty Sue Speaks of Statesville; four grandchildren, Whitney (Matt) Simpson, Devin Eidson, Chloe Eidson and Taylor Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Cole Simpson, Jazlyn Simpson, and Sara Simpson.

Funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, January 3, 2014, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Revs. Darren Johnson, J.C. Parks and Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 AM Friday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home prior to the service.
