John Vance Shumaker

John Vance Shumaker, 85 years old, of Union Grove, passed away on February 20, 2018. John was born in Iredell County on January 8, 1933 to the late Vernie and Ina McLain Shumaker. Mr. Shumaker was a farmer, retiring many years ago.

John was predeceased in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Gladys Dishmond Shumaker; his brother, Kenier Shoemaker and his sister, May Taylor. He is survived by his son, Donnie Shumaker and his wife Donna; his brother, Albert Shumaker; his sisters, Dorothy Dishmond, Polly Warren and her husband Paul and Ruby Moore; his grandkids, Michelle, Eric and Chris Mooe and Shanna Speaks; 5 great grandkids and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 1-2 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 329 Indian Hill Rd, Union Grove, NC with a 2pm funeral service to follow. John will be laid to rest with his wife at Taylor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Union Grove following the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Eric Mooe, Ricky Dishmond, Ronnie Dishmond, Tommy Randell, Jimmy Dale and Paul McDaniels.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to the Medi Home Health Agency, 393 3rd Ave SW, Taylorsville, NC 28681 in John’s memory.
