Born on June 6, 1940, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late John and Sarah Myers Whitaker. He owned and managed S. & J. Scale Company until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons, Johnny Jr., and Tony Whitaker.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sallie Whitaker; special friends, Bonnie and Arthur Brown; and many other loving family members.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy England officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Johnny will lie in state for one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
