

MR. JOSEPH LINFORD HAITHCOXOCTOBER 28, 1919 - JANUARY 14, 2010Joseph Linford Haithcox, 90, of 150 Old Georgia Road, Statesville, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, unexpectedly at his home.He was a native of Iredell County, born Oct. 28, 1919, and was the son of the late Scott and Hessie Smith Haithcox. On Oct. 25, 1946, he married Nickie Carter, who survives. Mr. Haithcox attended Iredell County schools and Alexander County schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, from 1942 until 1945. He had retired from Southern Screw Company.In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Joseph Haithcox Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Statesville, Douglas Haithcox and wife, Donna, of Florida, Ted Haithcox, of Statesville, and Max Haithcox and wife, Connie, of Monroe; a daughter, Donna Haithcox Lackey and husband, Lee, of Mooresville; two brothers, James Haithcox, of Stony Point, and Bob Haithcox and wife, Jean, of Statesville; two sisters, Pauline Burdette and husband, Kenneth, and Marg Neely, all of Statesville; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Mr. Haithcox was preceded in death by a son, Richard Allen Haithcox, who was killed in action in 1970 in Cambodia during the Viet Nam War.Funeral services celebrating the life of Joseph Haithcox will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Abilene Church of Christ. Reginald Morton will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
