

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 30 years, Marino Antonio Teran; daughter, Esperanza Yepez Mejia; grandson, Leonardo Pineda; brothers, Climaco Mejia, Eduardo Mejia, Mario Mejia, and Antonio Mejia; and sisters, Maria de Jesus Mejia, Aurora Mejia, Teresa Mejia, Mariela Mejia, Ana Mejia, and Rosa Mejia.
She is survived by her son, Luis Hurtado of Santiago, Chile; daughters, Nancy Fabiola Hurtado of Cali, Colombia, Claudia Shaw and Gloria Teran-Mejia, both of Statesville; grandchildren, Edison and Diego Leon Pineda, Cesar, Luis, and Maria Navarrette, Mateo Arrango, and Angelly, David, and Zair Hurtado; great grandchildren, Alison and Natalia Pineda, Noah Arrango, Emanuel Gutierrez, Maria and Juan Navarrette, Leonor Castillo, Erick and Diego Pineda, Samuel Hurtado Tapias, and Helen and Honey Hurtado; special daughter, Maria Chatham of Conover; and special caregiver, Angela Leach of Statesville.
Maria was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who held love for so many people. She was very generous and will especially be remembered for her smile. She was a member of Iglesia Luz de Vida in Statesville and was dedicated to learning God’s word.
A service to celebrate Maria’s life will be held at Iglesia Luz de Vida on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Pastor Luis Guevara will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
