

He was born March 14, 1931, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Clinton Marvin and Myrtle Cline Menscer. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War and was a long-time, active member of American Legion Post 16 in Newton where he had served as Post Commander. He worked for many years in the JCPenney Distribution Center and later retired from Ralph’s Cleaners in Conover.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Deane Hager; and a brother, William H. Menscer.
He is survived by a daughter, Melanie (Pat) Murdock of Troutman; a son, Russell “Rusty” Menscer, Jr. of Woodleaf; three grandchildren, Paul (Jennifer) Murdock of Troutman, Lauren (Andrew) Brown of Hartsell, SC, and Shannon (Chris) Hedrick of Woodleaf; four great-grandchildren, Christian and Timber Hedrick and Haley and Austin Murdock; a brother, Darrell (Faith) Menscer of Hendersonville; a sister, Nancy (Bill) Kestler of Statesville; special friends, Rebekah Stroud of Mocksville and Jerri Denton of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service celebrating Russell’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 9, 2014, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Childress officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Iredell County Veteran Council Burial Detail. Burial will take place at a later date at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service on Sunday.
