

She was born September 16, 1922, in Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Harrison Enis and Mattie Johnson Cooke. She served as a medical technician in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II She was a retired med tech from Hill Haven Nursing Home and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded on in death on December 28, 1989, by her husband, James Boyd Baker, whom she married on October 10, 1947; a brother, Raymond M. Cook; and five sisters, Pearl Thomas, Carrie Horne, Margaret Harwell, Dorothy Salmons and Maggie Campbell.
She is survived by two daughters, Joan Munday and son-in-law, Lonnie Munday, of Hiddenite and Debra Lea Baker of Burke County; three grandchildren, Eric (Gina) Munday and their children, Andrew (Samantha) Munday, McKayla Munday and Raven Munday; Michael (Chastity) Munday, and their children, Casey Munday, Brandon Munday, and Katie Munday; and Elizabeth (Mike) Woods and their children, Mikey Todd Woods and Gage Lukas Woods; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ester W. “E.W.” Cook of Statesville; a sister, Wilma Fox of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved.
Funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 18, 2014, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Young officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens will military honors being accorded by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM this evening (Friday, January 17) at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be at the granddaughter, Beth Woods’, home, 131 Martha Lane, Statesville.
