

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Honeycutt Martin, 78, of Newton, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Abernethy Laurels. Born on May 20, 1933 in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Vance Martin Honeycutt and Mary Geneva Edwards Honeycutt.
Mrs. Martin was an active member of Hopewell United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, worked in the church nursery and was a member of the Floye Drum Circle of Hopewell United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Owens Martin. She is survived by three sons, Jessie E. “Brownie” Martin and his wife, Linda of Sherrills Ford, Dwight O. Martin and his wife, Lou Ann of Catawba and Eric W. Martin and his wife, Beverly of Catawba; grandchildren, Gloria Ann Martin, Regnald “Reggie” Martin, Ashely Nicole Martin and Michael Martin; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ralph Martin Honeycutt of Maiden, Thomas Cravin Honeycutt of Mississippi and Edward Eli Honeycutt of the Raleigh area.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Hopewell United Methodist Church with the Reverend Bob Roten officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center of the church.
