Philip Morris Malone, beloved son of Eugene and Oma Lee Malone, was born on November 4, 1940 in Alexander County, North Carolina. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 16, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John, and sister Pat Malone.
Philip graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in chemical engineering in 1963. He was drafted into the US Army and served at Aberdeen Proving Ground in a chemical lab for several years. After the service, Philip was employed at Fiber Industries in Salisbury, North Carolina in 1965 as a production planning supervisor. The company later became Hoechst Celanese and he retired in 1996. In 1999, Philip worked for CommScope in Claremont, NC until 2008.
A life-long member of Sharon Lutheran Church, Philip did many things to maintain the church property and the parsonage. He mowed, cleared brush and trimmed trees until his passing.
In his younger years, Philip liked to fish, hunt, and bowl with friends and cousins. He loved the outdoors and faithfully planted his gardens every season. He also cycled long distances and rode his motorcycle with buddies to Daytona Beach.
Philip is remembered for being the stabilizing force in his family, prioritizing relationships over professional achievements. He is celebrated as the dependable son, brother, nephew and uncle who held the family together through difficult times. He was like a father to his niece and nephew- Rachel and Hunter- and a true brother to his sister-in-law, Susan. He will be missed immeasurably on this Earth; but as believers in Christ, his family looks forward with confidence and hope to our promised heavenly reunion!
Philip is survived by his niece Rachel Malone Clark (Jason Clark); nephew John Hunter Malone; sister-in-law, Susan Malone; and great-nephew and niece, John Philip Clark and Peyton Elizabeth Clark. He leaves behind many friends and his cousins: Margaret Dellinger; Jerry Dellinger (Lynne Dellinger); Donna Forbes (Jimmie Forbes); Carol Dellinger; Joyce Clodfelter; Connie Beam Meredith; and Janet Beam James.
Visitation will be held on March 7, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Sharon Lutheran Church, located at 2116 Island Ford Road, Statesville, North Carolina. The funeral service will follow the visitation, with burial at Sharon Lutheran Church Cemetery.
